An "Impacted Tooth" refers to a tooth that has failed to emerge fully into its expected position.

This failure to erupt properly may occur either because there is not enough room in the jaw for the tooth, or because of its abnormal position. Some of the problems associated with impacted wisdom teeth include: bacteria and plaque build-up, cysts development, tumour development, infection and jaw and gum disease.

Many oral health specialists will recommend the removal of wisdom teeth, as early extraction will help to eliminate problems.

• Facial swelling
